Karen M. Mayford

With a passion for capturing the beauty of natural landscapes and wildlife in their native habitat, I began my journey into photography at age 17.  Born in a rural suburb of Baltimore, Maryland, I developed a strong connection to both nature and art.

 

With a deep love of America’s great National Parks, as well as the American West, my work has taken me to many beautiful locations. I also toured the Mediterranean extensively, adding to my portfolio. I enjoy seeking out the perfect composition, waiting for the ideal lighting, and the thrill of photographing wild animals like Grizzly Bears in Alaska. I am also a big proponent of preserving and protecting America’s National Parks and their Wildlife through organizations like Vital Ground  and the National Parks Conservation Association. 

 

My photos have been published in National Wildlife Magazine, The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, Woman's World, Cat Fancy Magazine, Workman Publishing's Cat Calendars, and Frommer's Travel Guide. I was also one of the featured photographers on the USPS Protect Pollinators Forever Stamp Series.
